Excluding Files from Backups

Last Updated: Feb 05, 2013 04:37PM MST
You may choose specific files and/or directories to exclude from your backups by editing this file:

{HOME} is the default directory for your deployment.  The directory will be the same name as your "system username".

Begin by launching the web terminal or SSH in to your deployment using the system username and password provided from within the Admin Console

Next, open the configuration file using either the vi or nano editors

Use this file to specify which directories, files, or file types you'd like to exclude from the backups.

If you would like to search for large files within your deployment to exclude from your backups, use this search command.
You may specify the size of files to find by modifying the following command
find . -type f -size +15000k -exec ls -lh {} \; | awk '{ print $9 ": " $5 }'
The above command finds all files within the current directory (and nested directories) that are 15000k (15 Meg) and higher.

The results for this search show that I have only 1 file that is larger than 15 Meg.

I do not wish to backup this file or any files of .m4a file type.

Modify my exclusion configuration file to omit this file type.

By adding the (uncommented) line displayed above all .m4a files within my deployment will be ignored in all future backups.

If you have any questions about this configuration file or the procedure for editing it, please contact Support.
