Text Editors

Last Updated: Feb 07, 2013 05:23PM MST
The vi editor is one of the most common text editors on Unix and is the default editor for all servers provisioned through the Standing Cloud platform

An alternative to Vi is Nano, which emulates the Pico text editor.
Nano is not installed to servers by default, but you may install it on your own using the Supervisor account (and sudo).

To install Nano, begin by logging in to your server as the Supervisor or using the "admin terminal" feature from the "Server Actions Menu".

From the command line, type the following:
sudo yum install nano
NOTE:  You will be prompted to enter the Supervisor password.

Upon entering the password, the system will download and install Nano.

Should you need to edit a file from the command line (or web terminal), use one of the following commands to open your file in either the Vi or Nano editors

vi filename.txt
- or -
nano filename.txt
.. where filename.txt is the name of the file you wish to edit.
